Aaron and I have been talking about people using Divvy to share their bikes and want to kick it off by giving away a few bikes!
You read that right. GIVING AWAY BIKES! If you want a few bikes and promise to use Divvy to share them with your friends, then email me (jenny@divvy.com) and I’ll fill you in on the details.
I hadn’t been on a bike in years until a few weekends ago when I went on a weekend trip to a golf resort with my friends. Marie and I decided to take bikes out and check out the neighborhood and WOW I had a blast. I fogot how much fun it was to ride bikes. Check out my wind-blown, bike-riding look, complete with Garth glasses.

I know you're secretly jealous of my giant puffy jacket and crazy glasses.
Besides the fact that the Divvy bikes are FREE and chock-full of healthy fun, think about the impact you can have on the environment.
From BicycleUniverse.info:
Bicycling wastes gas? Bicycling actually uses fossil fuels, if you consider the fossil fuels that go into producing the food to fuel the cyclist. Eating meat is most wasteful because of all the energy required to produce animal foods, while eating fruits, grains, and vegetables is more efficient.
Bikes vs. Cars. David Lawyer wrote the ultimate paper comparing bicycle vs. automobile energy use, and found that bikes are 2/3 more efficient than cars even after factoring in the energy to produce the extra food the cyclist requires.
Bicycle MPG. If we spent our gas money (at $3.72/gallon) on food to fuel our biking, that $3.72 would take us 26 miles on beef, 48 miles on potatoes, 106 miles on beans, and 109 miles on rice.
Bicycling is 117% more efficient than walking.
Using a bicycle to commute four days a week for four miles (one-way) saves 54 gallons of gas annually.
If you’re interested in finding out more about how you can get a few free Divvy bikes, email me (jenny@divvy.com)or leave a comment.

Not only is cycling fun – it’s also good for you, in that heart-healthy sort of way.

I think a percentage of the fun was the breaking and entering. Neither of which would have been possible if not for the bikes we were on. I’d love to try it out! Who doesn’t love a little helmet-hair as a nice compliment to a spring outfit?

Nice.. but it’s the rain gear that really bites at the wallet. Waterproof bags, fenders, and so on run more than your average craigslist bike. Will they be equipped for year-around use?
It’d be cool if some day this could grow into a Public Bike system like the ones in Copenhagen, Berlin, Barcelona, Lyon, Paris, Cordoba, Seville, Vienna, Stockholm, Helsinki, Valencia, London, Washington DC, Denver, Portland, Madison, Toronto, and Montreal (there might be other cities soon too).
